Circular Fuels Launch Event: New Technologies for Aviation Fuel Production
Aviation transport is one of the most carbon-intensive sectors, contributing to 14.4% of EU transport emissions. As part of efforts to achieve EU climate neutrality by 2050, the Fit for 55 package proposes measures to reduce emissions, including promoting greener aviation fuels. The RefuelEU Aviation Regulation will require aviation fuel suppliers to ensure that 2% of Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF) are available at EU airports by 2025, increasing to 70% by 2050. SAF production will be supported by green hydrogen and advanced biofuel technologies.
